EMS Paramedics  at Lake Chelan Community Hospital respond to all requests for emergency and non-emergency medical assistance and transportation within the boundaries of the Chelan County Hospital District No-2 and in Douglas County by agreements with Douglas County Frie Districts No-4 & 5 and Douglas County Hospital District No-2, from the top of McNeil Canyon Rd to Mile post 220 on Hwy-97, including the community of Sun Cove.

What is a Paramedic?
LCCH EMS Paramedics are individuals who started as EMT's and, after gaining field expirence, went to Paramedic training at the college level.  They have been certified by the Washington State Department of Health as having been trained and tested in the following practices:

  • Perform manual defibrillation
  • Perform synchronized cardioversion
  • Perform transcutaneous pacing
  • Perform Valsalva's Maneuver and Carotid Sinus Massage
  • Perform EKG-Monitoring
  • Acquire and interpret 12-lead EKG
  • Perform pulse oximetry
  • Perform end tidal CO2 monitoring
  • Visualize the airway by use of the laryngoscope and remove foreign body(ies)
    with forceps
  • Perform endotracheal intubation
  • Utilize field ventillators
  • Perform needle cricothyrotomy/transtracheal jet insufflation
  • Perform surgical cricothyroidotomy in patients 12 years of age or older
  • Perform needle thoracostomy
  • Monitor thoracostomy tubes
  • Perform peripheral and central intravenous therapy
  • Perform intraosseous insertion on pediatric and adult patients
  • Administer intravenous Blood products, Dextrose, Ringer's lactate, or Normal
    Saline solutions
  • Obtain venous blood samples
  • Perform pericardiocentesis
  • Perform nasogastric intubation and gastric suction
  • Perform drug administration

LCCH EMS Paramedics are also certified by the American Heart Association in Basic cardiac life support, Advanced cardiac life support, Pediatric advanced life support and by the American academy of Pediatrics in Neonatal resucitation. They are also certified in Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention by the Washington Association of Fire Chiefs.

EMS Paramedics are able to administer more than 35 emergency medications through online medical control direction via radio and telephone or the Chelan/Couglas County Advanced life support protocols.
